Not who he is. Not why his body is covered in scars. Not even what he’s supposed to do next.
All he knows is that he just came back from the war — but how he got there… he’s thought about it for a long time, and still can’t figure it out.
When he returned to the city, the men were gone. No fathers on the streets. No husbands at the doorways. No brothers in the yards. Not even wounded soldiers limping home from the front. It was as if every male had been erased from the world — except him.
No one told him why. No one told him why he was still alive.
